The Wiccans and Witches of Everglades Moon Local Council of the Covenant of the Goddess express our deep sorrow and outrage over the recent tragic events in Haiti. For years, Vodou has been unjustly used as a pretext by gangs to commit heinous acts of violence, and Vodouisants have faced persecution for their beliefs and practices for centuries. We acknowledge Haiti’s long history of suffering under oppressive regimes that have targeted Vodouisants, and we unequivocally condemn the gangs terrorizing the Haitian nation today.
We also strongly denounce the mainstream media’s misrepresentation of Vodou as a caricature of “Witchcraft” – a narrative that perpetuates misunderstanding and profits from the suffering of an already burdened nation.
As practitioners of the Craft, we are dedicated to healing and extend our heartfelt condolences to the families and communities affected by this tragedy.
We stand in solidarity with Haiti and affirm our belief that the Loa will once again rise in support of the Haitian people, just as they did in 1804 when Haiti, against all odds, overthrew colonial rule and enslavement to become the birthplace of freedom.
We call upon governments worldwide to provide meaningful support immediately to the Haitian people, who have endured unimaginable hardship.
