We’re just back from a weekend together at Turning the Tide 2009, a pagan festival EMLC hosts each year in South Florida. It was a wonderful weekend of community, ritual, workshops, and fun events, such as a Quidditch match and an Iron Witch competition. This is the third year of Turning the Tide, and it went smoother than ever. We had over 70 registrations and more than 65 attendees at our intimate site. We welcomed many new attendees this year to our family-inclusive community. We met our goal to be easy on earth by having our attendees bring their own plates, bowls, cups, and utensils, and we also packed out our recyclable materials. While old and new attendees alike helped the event be a success, two of our new guests exceeded our goals and expectations of leaving the site better than when we arrived by clearing out the trash left by past visitors throughout the site! Our toy/gift drive to benefit Empower “U” gathered a huge pile of new, unwrapped toys and other gifts to help others share in our fortune this holiday season.
In a short two days, we celebrated the returning light, reveled in our wonderful drummers (Roots of Music!), were gifted with Spirit bags, shared the elements of creation, and renewed our community and connections with one another. We hope to see old friends and new at Turning the Tide 2010 next December!
Blessings,
Canu, EMLC First Officer
